The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad has reportedly resorted to locking students of Ramjas College inside the campus and stoning after threatening violence against JNU's Umar Khalid's presence at a discussion in the college.
The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad again showed it's violent colours when it reportedly resorted to locking students of Ramjas College inside the campus and stoning after threatening violence against JNU’s Umar Khalid’s presence at a discussion in the college. The act is allegedly still in continuation as this article is being written. According to Facebook posts by Khalid and a few other students of the college, ABVP surrounded the seminar room, locking both students and teachers inside. It has been reported that this supemacist wing of the RSS even resorted to stone-throwing.
Earlier today, ABVP had disrupted the “Cultures of Protest” conference. The right-wing students’ party was protesting against the presence of JNU’s Umar Khalid. Khalid had been invited to speak at the conference, which had been organised by the Department of English at Ramjas College. The organisers of the conference were seen protesting against the disruption. Meanwhile, Khalid, who was not allowed to attend the conference expressed his views on Facebook. Khalid informed that ABVP threatened to disfigure his face to make him unrecognisable. Khalid said that “such open brazennes is possible only because of the institutional impunity ABVP goons enjoy in universities”.
Khalid later commented on Facebook post saying, “Now, Delhi Police tells the organisers (students and teachers of Ramjas College) that it will not protect me, or the organisers from any attack by ABVP. And according to the Delhi Police, organisers will be held responsible for any violence by ABVP. Wow! Such is the state of democracy in our country where attackers are given complete protection and those facing attacks are held responsible for the attacks on them.”
Two other speakers, namely, filmmaker Sanjay Kak and JNU professor Bimol Akoijam were also stopped from entering the venue to participate in the conference. It musty be noted that this is not the first time that the ABVP has resorted to violence in their methods. Earlier in 2015, the group had disrupted a screening of a documentary on Muzaffarnagar Riots in Kirori Mal College. The documentary had also faced similar protests during its screening at the JNU.
