Adani Wilmar halts cooking oil ads after brand ambassador Sourav Ganguly suffers heart attack

Creative agency involved in the making of the advertisements is looking into the issue to regain brand loyalty

Adani Wilmar company halted all Fortune Rice Bran cooking oil advertisements featuring former India captain and BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, after the sports legend suffered a mild heart attack on January 2. 2021, said news reports.

The product that uses ‘a heart healthy oil that gives you the power of immunity’ as its tagline decided to remove Ganguly from its advertising to protect the brand image. The move has garnered heavy criticisms and digs at the cricket legend from netizens on social media platform Twitter.

 

According to the Economic Times, brand campaign creator Ogilvy & Mather agency is looking into the issue and plans to start a fresh redressal campaign. Ganguly was appointed as the brand ambassador of Fortune Rice Bran cooking oil in January 2020.

He was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata on Saturday afternoon after the cricket star complained of chest discomfort at his home gym. News reports say that his condition has become stable and that he will be discharged soon. He had to undergo an angioplasty.
