ADG Ritesh Kumar becomes new chief of Maharashtra CID

The major shuffle on Monday involved many senior police officials of the state

In a huge reshuffle of police officials across Maharashtra, Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Atulchandra Kulkarni was transferred from the State Crime Investigation Division (CID) to the State Prisons and Correctional Services department, as per a government order on August 23, 2021.

As many as 14 senior police officials from Nagpur, Pune and Mumbai districts of Maharashtra were promoted and transferred to the latter two cities on Monday. Officers involved in this process also included Inspector Generals of Police (IGs).

Following the transfer, Kulkarni was replaced by ADG Ritesh Kumar, formerly in charge of communications and transport. The CID is currently looking into complaints against former Mumbai Police Commissioner and DG Home Guards Param Bir Singh. Singh earlier accused former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of corruption.

Meanwhile, CID’s Special IG Praveen Salunkhe was promoted to ADG rank. IG Madhukar Pandey was also promoted to ADG rank. He will head the state economic offences wing (EOW). Meanwhile, ADG Archana Tyagi was transferred from the State Reserve Police Force to the State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation.
