Large masses of farmers assembled for public meetings at four Haryana toll plazas on February 2, 2021 to condemn the government repression faced by farmers in Delhi. Thousands of women farmers came together at toll plazas in the Hisar and Jind districts of Haryana. Attendees expressed outrage against the central government for its criminal conspiracy of violence and repression since Republic Day.
All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) National President Dr. Ashok Dhawale and Haryana President Phool Singh Sheokand, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) State Vice President Surender Singh attended the event.
“The government said it would double farmers’ income by 2022. But the Budget session on February 1 showed an 8 percent reduction for the agriculture sector. This has become an anti-farmer government,” said Dhawale.
Similarly, leaders said that the Centre is inhumanely suppressing the ongoing farmers’ agitation in Delhi. They condemned the deployment of a huge police force at all four protest sites in the city and the stopping of water supply and electricity supply to disrupt farmers’ peaceful struggle. Dhawale also condemned the internet shut down both at Delhi borders and at various parts of Haryana. He also denounced cases filed against journalists and farmers.
“Farmers who have set out to reach the protest sites are being obstructed at various places. Railways have been diverted from the planned route. The supply is also being disrupted as farmers are trying to find out where the food comes from,” said the AIKS leader.
To tackle this “highly reprehensible” repression by the government, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha called for a nationwide road blockade on February 6, from noon to 3 PM. According to leaders, national highways, state highways and even village roads wherever possible will be closed down for three hours on Saturday.
The AIKS also called upon all branches to prepare for mass agitations. Similarly, it also amplified the clarion call by the AIKS for a nationwide electricity-employee strike on February 3. Farmers will join workers outside electricity offices at the district-level to the anti-people laws of the Centre.
