A day after he was removed from his post as the CBI Chief by a three member High Powered Committee, and reassigned to another post, Alok Verma has resigned.
In his resignation letter Verma speaks of how “natural justice was scuttled and the entire process was turned upside down” while referring to the manner in which he was removed. “The entire CVC report is premised on charges alluded by a complainant who is currently under investigation,” he says highlighting how he has been trading corruption charges with his former second in command Rakesh Asthana.
Earlier the Delhi High Court had refused to quash the FIR against Asthana, though the Supreme Court saw it fit to reinstate Verma subject to clearance from the High Powered Committee.
