On a video released by the Congress, the son of an Army veteran who committed suicide in the capital alleges that he and his family were "abused and thrashed" by the police when they tried to meet Rahul Gandhi.
NDTV reported these 10 latest developments:
The video has shots from inside a police station and several cops are seen pulling the ex-serviceman's son, Jaswant Grewal, as he pleads with them saying, "Please don't do this."
Subedar Ram Kishen Grewal, 65, allegedly poisoned himself on the lawns of a government building in Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. In a suicide note he said he had still not received the increased pension promised to him by the government under its one-rank-one-pension scheme.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi attempted repeatedly to meet Subedar Grewal's family today and was detained twice by the police, once for over 70 minutes in the afternoon and again in the evening.
At a police station he asked cops if they "have no shame" for having also detained the veteran's family. The police said they had detained Jaswant Grewal after he joined Aam Aadmi Party workers in impromptu protests outside a hospital.
On Wednesday evening, Rahul Gandhi met the family at a police station and was swiftly detained and taken away to another in a packed police van.
Many senior Congress leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, too courted arrest.
AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also made several attempts to meet Subedar Grewal's family. Mr Kejriwal has been formally detained by Delhi Police.
AAP's Mansih Sisodia, deputy chief minister of Delhi, was detained by the police from outside a hospital when he tried to meet the Subedar's family.
Both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party have accused the government of failing to implement the One-Rank-One-Pension scheme that ensures equal pension for those who retired years ago to those at the same rank retiring now.
"I don't have anything to say, police will do what it has to for risk reduction," said union home minister Rajnath Singh.
