The Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) thanked farmers for the unprecedented participation in the Farmers’ Republic Day Parade and condemned the undesirable and unacceptable events that took place on January 26, 2021.

“We dissociate ourselves from all such elements that have violated our discipline. We appeal strongly to everyone to stick to the route and norms of the parade, and not indulge in any violent action or anything that taints national symbols and dignity. We appeal to everyone to desist from any such acts,” said farmer leaders.

The SKM said it has been trying to get a full picture of all events regarding the several Kisan Parades that were planned for Tuesday. The organisation said it will share a full statement soon.

Farmer leaders also expressed regret that despite all efforts, some organisations and individuals violated the route and indulged in condemnable acts. Further, they said anti-social elements infiltrated the otherwise peaceful movement.

“We have always held that peace is our biggest strength, and that any violation would hurt the movement,” said farmer leaders.

Similarly, All India Kisan Sabha General Secretary Hannan Mollah, while talking to Left Front News, said that despite the untoward event, farmers resumed the peaceful parade along Tikri border.

“I appeal to the media not to show the same event again and again to rile up the people. Farmers are protesting peacefully. We appeal to people to accordingly observe peaceful protests and save the farmers’ struggle from defamation,” he said.

Mollah reminded people that farmers maintained a peaceful protest for the last seven months, two of which were spent in zero-degree weather. Yet, certain elements continue to try and discredit the struggle. The farmer leader said police had been notified regarding this and volunteers were assigned along every parade to prevent any untoward incident. Yet criminal elements managed to infiltrate the parade.

“Farmers struggle had never imagined that such a thing would happen. Sadly, some criminal elements succeeded and tainted the farmers’ movement. These elements are the enemies of farmers,” said Mollah.

However, he also said that if the government had previously accepted farmers’ demands, such a disaster would not have occurred.
