Are some Foreigners' Tribunals in Assam exceeding their brief?

The workings of Foreigners' Tribunals in Assam have long been questioned for the arbitrariness of their methods. But ever since the  BJP government came to power in Assam, it seems that the working of the FTs have truly turned Kafkasque. From lawyers being appointed as judges to FTs  exceeding their brief regularly,how some of these quasi judicial bodies are functioning, are casting a long shadow on the rule of law in Assam. Here in this exclusive interview to Sabrang, Adv. Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Chaudhary of the Gauhati Hight Court traces the history of the FTs and the unbelievable way in which some of them are working outside the purview of their brief.
