Police produced him at court after a seven-day remand
A Dhaka court has ordered photographer Shahidul Alam, charged in a case of instigating disorder through his public comments, to be sent to jail.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Fahad Bin Amir Chowdhury issued ordered him sent to jail on Sunday after a hearing.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch Inspector Arman Ali, the investigating officer on Shahidul’s case, presented him in court after a seven-day remand and asked the court to send him to jail.
Police have charged him with using electronic media to instigate disorder in the country and spread fabricated information and rumours via social media.
He was detained from his home on August 5.
On August 4 and 5, the photographer had gone live on Facebook several times to discuss clashes in the city’s Jigatola area between students demonstrating for safer roads, and police and alleged activists of ruling party affiliate organizations.
