The wave of celebrities joining in to support the students’ protest against the CAA is growing bigger by the day. After Bollywood’s clarion call to the public to join in the protest at the August Kranti Maidan, Mumbai on December 19, many more celebrities have tweeted out in support of the students, condemning the violence they were subjected to by the state.
What is interesting is that many of the newbies on the anti-CAA bandwagon, have previously openly supported and even defended the Modi regime. Many have also been known to play it safe and remain ‘apolitical’ in their public life. Their open condemnation of the regime’s tactics is proving to be a shot in the arm for the burgeoning movement to defend India’’s democratic and secular values.
Here are a few such tweets:
Chetan Bhagat:
Why is an law like CAA, technically meant for foreigners affecting Indians so much?
Cause another law called NRC is coming, which essentially assumes all Indians are foreigners unless they can prove otherwise.
This needs to be fixed.

As a parent and a citizen of india , I am deeply saddened by the unrest across various educational institutions of our country. I hope and pray for peace to return as soon as possible. Great teachers learn from their students. I salute the worlds youngest democracy.

The right to peaceful protest is fundamental to ideals of democracy and constitutionalism. Please keep the protests non-violent and those in governance please exercise restraint. Our children and students should feel safe on their campuses protected and not fearful of the police.
