While the government of India continues to regularly remind that Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh report a high in daily new Covid-19 cases, some attention needs to be drawn to large states like Uttar Pradesh, which have porous borders with other states.
The Covid-19 norms were openly flouted here as news reports, especially those from

Even if permission was granted, people had to follow Covid-19 protocols such as social distancing, and wearing face masks. The government had asked those above 60 years or younger than 10, and those with comorbidities to stay at home. The Uttar Pradesh government also shut all schools for students up to class 8 from March 24 March-March 31 in the wake of the surge in Covid-19 cases in the state. However, celebrations were comparatively muted in neihbouring Delhi which is also recording a massive surge in new Covid-19 cases with nearly 1,900 fresh cases in the 24 hours.This is reported to be the highest spike in the past 3.5 months.
According to the information shared by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) it is eight states: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh have reported 84.5% of the new cases. On the other hand, Maharashtra has also reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 17,874 newly recovered cases. India’s cumulative recoveries now stand at 1,13,55,993, taking the . The national Recovery Rate to 94.32%, around 291 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
On March 29, India’s total Active Caseload reached 5,21,808 and now stands at 4.33% of India’s total positive cases. Nineteen States/UTs have a higher cases per million than the national average, stated PIB, and were marked in this official graph.
