Professor Dr. Kedar Kumar Mandal, who had made an ‘objectionable’ post about a Hindu Goddess, was today granted conditional protection from police action if he joined the investigation. An order passed by the Saket District Court said, “No coersive action shall be taken against the applicant/accused till the next date of hearing.”

Mandal was a professor of Delhi University’s Dayal Singh College at the time of making the post in September this year. In his post he claimed that a Hindu mytholigical figure was a sex worker. An FIR was filed against him for hurting religious sentiments and he was subsequently arrested. Mandal was also suspended by the governing body of the college and even prevented from entering the premises.
But he claimed that his post was based on research and agreed to submit documentation including magazines and journals to back his claim. Speaking to Sabrang Mandal’s lawyer A.K Singh said, “He has himself agreed to cooperate with the investigation and will meet with the police at 6pm today at the Lodhi Colony police station.”
Hearing in the case will continue on Nov 13.
