Twitter influencer Mahesh Vikram Hegde who feels “Blessed to be followed by PM Narendra Modi”, has often been called out for his provocative social media tweets. The latest is his tweet of a video clip where a group of people, identified as residents of Gurugram, can be seen objecting to namaz being allowed in an open public space.
An unidentified man in the video, claims that Muslims are a threat to the safety of his daughter and other women who live in Sector 47 of Gurugram. Some in the agitated group alleged that “namaz” in the open spoils law and order, when the police tries to inverne and diffuse the tension. They start chanting “Bharat mata ki jai” which has unfortunately been turned into an aggressive war cry like call by right wing groups.
Mahesh Vikram Hegde, in his tweet claims that that “thousands of restrictions are imposed when we celebrate our festivals” and also alleges that Muslims “offer nam@z on public property & even misbehave with our sisters.” In a testament to widespread Islamophobia, his tweet was shared over 7,000 times and ‘liked’ over 12,000 times!

Gurugram Police, whose personnel had been on the site as well, later took to their social media page and clarified, “Namaz spots at public places have been decided by both Hindu and Muslim communities after mutual understanding and this place is one among them.”

However, the issue continues to rage on, as Hegde’s followers say that the cops should heed to the demand of the handful of Hindu residents and stop the namaz.
