The gruesome murder of woman sarpanch of Beloshi village of Mahad taluka in Maharashtra’s Raigad district came to light on Monday afternoon, when her naked body was found dumped in bushes. According to news reports, a local passerby noticed a gunny sack thrown on the roadside and made the horrific discovery and informed other villagers.
The body bore injury marks. The locals informed the police and they reportedly took her “to a government hospital where she was declared brought dead” and the body was sent for an autopsy by the authorities.
The deceased was identified as a 48-year-old sarpanch of a local gram panchayat, though her identity has been kept confidential so far. According to reports, the police have registered a murder case against unknown accused, and told the media that the post-mortem report was awaited to ascertain if the woman was sexually assaulted. If confirmed a under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) will also be added to the existing sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to a report in SheThePeople, in November this year, a woman sarpanch was killed in a violent clash that broke out between two groups in Ganj Barkheda village, Madhya Pradesh. The 40-year-old was killed while six persons were injured. Genda Bai Lodhi, the sarpanch, was gravely injured and died while undergoing treatment at the district hospital. As per the initial investigation, the two groups had an old enmity which resulted in a violent clash.
