The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, refused to pass orders in the petition demanding eviction of protesters from Shaheen Bagh. The court sited the need for the situation to cool down. The court also condemned the expression of dissent through violent means.
Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph heard the matter. Bar and Bench reported that Justice Kaul made an appeal for peace saying, “All stakeholders should lower their temperature and blood pressure. This is not how a society should behave… Unfortunately, the debate is degenerating into something else, this is not healthy dissent.”

The court also came down heavily on the Delhi Police. According to the Indian Express Judge K M Joseph said there was a lack of professionalism on part of the cops. “These things would not have happened had police not allowed instigators to get away,” the bench of Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph observed.
The court also disposed of the application to give directions to file FIRs against perpetrators of violence that began in Delhi on February 23. The application was filed yesterday by Chandra Shekhar Aazad, Wajahat Habibullah and Bahadul Abbas Naqvi. This is because the Delhi High Court is already hearing matters related to the violence. The SC was reluctant to expand the scope of the petition before it beyond blockage of roads at Shaheen Bagh.
