A calendar with photos of several BJP leaders including that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed the birth anniversary of the architect of India’s contitution, BR Ambedkar, Inauspicious Day.

The calendar, printed in Marathi, was first posted by blogger Outcast India. It has BJP’s election symbol and carries photos of several prominent BJP leaders. Notable among them are Prime Minister Narendra Modi, late Gopinath Munde and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Ambedkar Inauspicious

In the calendar, several days have been termed auspicious while some days are deemed inauspicious.

14 April, the birth anniversary, is declared as inauspicious.

The calendar has been published by one Manoj Radhakishan Kokate, who identifies himself as the secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, youth wing of the BJP.

BJP MP, Poonam Mahajan, is the national president of BJYM.

Janta Ka Reporter made several attempts to contact Maharashtra’s BJYM office-bearers for comments, but they were unavailable.

The BJP has been facing ire of Dalits because of rising atrocities against the community by its supporters. The brutal attack on Dalit youth in Gujarat’s Una district had led to widespread protests by the community against the saffron party.

The party is in the fray in key assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, where Dalit votes are often crucial in deciding the poll outcome.

Just how important Dalits’ votes are for the BJP was evident when Prime Minister called the new mobile app for the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) ‘BHIM. In his 40-minute speech at Talkatora Stadium on 31 December, Modi had time and again evoked Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
