On July 6, a week after Bakri Eid, another incident of Hindutva aggression surfaced from the Bidar district of Karnataka. An FIR has also been filed in the said case. Reportedly, the FIR has been filed by complainant Mehraj and her family against nine people, which includes Sharanu Salagar, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Basavakalyana Assembly. In the FIR, the complainant has alleged that the accused had threatened the complainant Mehraj and her family during Bakri Eid. A video of the said incident is also doing rounds on the social media, which shows a mob of people standing outside a house, along with one policeman
In recent times, Bakri Eid, a festival deeply revered and observed by the Muslim community, has served as an excuse for the extremist Hindu groups and individuals having a divisive ideology to harass and abuse the Muslims living in India.
In the FIR, the complainant has stated that Sharanu Salagar came along with 10 other people came to her house, and started threatening and abusing the family, asking them why they are slaughtering an animal in their house. In her complaint to the police, she has alleged, he also spoke about her Muslim community in disparaging words. The said FIR had been registered under Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 295 (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class), 448 (trespass), 504 (insulting someone intentionally to provoke them), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
