The BJP, which had won all seven seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha seats, was leading in Chandni Chowk by 25,152 votes, East Delhi by 34,875, New Delhi by 32, 352, North East Delhi by 78,963, North West Delhi by 70,683, South Delhi by 41,640 and West Delhi by 75,664 votes as of 11 a.m., according to the Election Commission of India.
New Delhi: The BJP candidates were leading in all seven Lok Sabha seats of Delhi in the first three hours of counting for the 2019 general elections on Thursday, while Congress was on the second spot in four and the Aam Aadmi Party on three constituencies.
In seats ranging from East Delhi, North East Delhi to South Delhi and New Delhi, all of BJP’s candidates are leading in the race.
From North East Delhi, which is a contest between political heavyweights, Manoj Tiwari, who is BJP’s state unit chief is leading with Congress’s Delhi chief and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit, trailing behind.
At 3 pm on May 23, projections showed BJP’s Manoj Tiwari leading with 5,08,976 votes (55.53% vote share). INC’s Sheila Dikshit was seen trailing with 2,41,124 votes (26.31% vote share). AAP’s Dilip Pandey was third with 1,24,304 votes (13.56% vote share.)
Tiwari, a popular Bhojpuri actor and singer, had defeated AAP’s Anand Kumar in this constituency in 2014 with a margin of over 1.4 lakh votes.
Tiwari, hopeful of yet another win, has already asked the party cadre in North East Delhi to begin preparations for the Assembly polls next year, according to The Hindu.
In East Delhi, which saw a controversial campaign between AAP’s Atishi and BJP’s Gautam Gambhir, Gambhir was leading by over 1 lakh votes in the afternoon.
He was pitted against AAP candidate Atishi and Congress’ Arvinder Singh Lovely. Gambhir and Atishi were locked in a very close and keenly watched fight.
Punjabi folk singer and BJP candidate from North West Delhi, Hans Raj Hans is leading against AAP’s Gugan Singh and Congress’s Rajesh Lilothia.
From New Delhi constituency, BJP’s sitting lawmaker is leading against Congress’s Ajay Maken and AAP’s Brijesh Goyal. From South Delhi, BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri is leading against AAP’s Raghav Chadha and boxer and Congress candidate Vijender Singh.
BJP’s Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari has expressed confidence of the BJP winning more than 350 seats.
