More than a year after Tamil Nadu saw human faeces dumped in a drinking water tank used by Dalit communities, another such inhumane incident has taken place in the state once again leaving many sick and even more horrified.

Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh see brutal anti-Dalit violence in the past two months. The heinous crimes from the past three months include a magistrate asking a Dalit survivor to strip in court to a young child from the Dalit community brutally beaten for touching a bucket of water in his school.

In a significant move announced to the media on Monday, over four dozen Dalit Ambedkarite organisations have declared their open support to the Maha Vikas Aghadi in the state, eschewing vote division and isolating Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi. The newly formed Progressive Republican Party (PRP) has also called to other Dalit organisations to step down from independent poll battles, giving priority to the survival of the Constitution and Democracy itself. This is the Call given through this press conference.

Caste, big capital, entrenched political influence continues to determine access to to land. Violence is the means to quell  India’s Dalit communities as they struggle to reclaim land that is tilled by them.Punjab, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu have seen emergent movements around Dalit land rights but these are not reflected in manifestos of political formations, yet.
