Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Secretary Sanjay Agrawal wrote a letter to farmer leaders on January 18, 2021 stating that the January 19 meeting is postponed to January 20 owing to “inevitable reasons.”
The meeting will now take place at 2 PM on Wednesday at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, said the letter written in Hindi.
Earlier, the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) said that talks between farmer leaders and government officials will solely focus on the issue of the repeal of the three agriculture laws – the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance & Farm Services Act, the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act – and the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020.
“If the Government of India wishes to make a show of talks and wants to only mark time, waiting to tire out the farmers, it is mistaken. The AIKSCC has urged the government to immediately withdraw the NIA notices issued to some leaders in order to create a better atmosphere for talks,” said the AIKSCC.
Moreover, the farmers organisation said that the tractor parade in Delhi on Republic Day shall be held at all costs and will be unprecedented. Thousands of people are being mobilised at the district level, making the protest the biggest ever agitation by farmers of any country against its elected government.
“The parties want votes from Farmers to sit and govern but they are serving corporate interests with these laws and this will not be tolerated. The movement will continue to expand and intensify till the laws are withdrawn,” said farmer leaders.
