Video asking to harass Muslim women on Holi surfaces on social media

On the auspicious occasion of Holi that is mostly celebrated by Hindus, a video asking for the harassing of Muslim women during the festival has emerged.

In the video, a man can be seen rubbing colours on the cheeks of a Muslim woman after taking off the burqa from her face. The video was posted on the popular social media app TikTok by a user who looks to bear an affiliation with the saffron brigade. He has turned off comments on this particular video, probably sensing the backlash they would entail.

Twitter has erupted in anger after the video was shared by persons who encourage the harassment of Muslim women on the festival. The language of the people who have reposted the video is not suitable for print.

Please don’t share and quote tweet those horrible videos of Hindu men harassing Muslim women and forcing them to play Holi. Don’t bring that TikTok filth here please. Let it be taken down by TikTok and die there.

In the latest, they have made tik-tok videos of brazenly molesting hijab clad Muslim woman, in the name of playing holi. Shameless. Bura ma maano holi hai, is a day of molesting women and running scot-free, about it.

Most of his other videos revolve around the Ayodhya temple and how every Hindu child is in service of Lord Ram.

Whether or not he has made this video is difficult to source. However, many people have shared the misogynistic and sexist video over social media. The more the video is spread among the masses, especially at such a sensitive time it will only give more impunity to those who do not respect women and women from other communities or the traditions of other religions.

At a time with the saffron brigade spreading hate against the minorities, this video is just going to provide a fillip to those who are looking for another chance to fulfill their vile interests and push the minorities further into a corner.

Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati: The loudest hate monger against Muslims?

Leader of the Hindutva organization Hindu Swabhiman, President of the Akhil Bharatiya Sant Parishad and chief priest of the Devi Mandir at Dasna in Uttar Pradesh, Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati’s name has emerged in connection with the communal violence in western Uttar Pradesh and areas adjoining Delhi, reported The Quint.

In the past month, he has been making several blasphemous statements through his official YouTube channel ‘Narsingh Vani’ and has also been propagating the end of Islam in interviews. Calling Muslims ‘jihadis’ he has said that Hindus need to make India a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ saying that Muslims were perpetrating ‘love jihad’ and killing Hindus at will.

In another video, he very blatantly states that it is only when Islam ends that humanity can be saved. On February 22, roaring into the mic, he addressed the public saying that Muslims have taken it upon themselves to bring the city to its feet.

In a video posted on February 10, 2020, he said, that Shaheen Bagh, where the famous women-led protests against the CAA-NPR-NRC, is calling for the genocide of Hindus. And, on February 11, he made a statement stating that all Hindus should stand with ‘warrior’ Kapil Gujjar, a young man who had the courage to fight against Shaheen Bagh. Gujjar had opened fire near the area where the Shaheen Bagh protestors were staging their sit-n. Nobody was injured in the attack.

He also praised BJP’s Kapil Mishra in a video on February 25 where he supported Mishra’s speech and actions that purportedly led to the Delhi riots. Calling the newest BJP entrant Gautam Gambhir a eunuch, he asked all the Hindus to support Kapil Mishra who would continue to fight for Hindutva and a Hindu Rashtra.

He has also repeatedly called on Hindus to pick up arms and fight for the cause of Hindutva saying that it is not a sin, but a virtue to pick up arms to protect one’s religion.

Who is Narsinghanand Yati?

In an interview to The Quint in 2015, Narsinghanand has claimed to be an engineer with an M-Tech degree who hails from Ghaziabad. He has also said that he has worked with organizations associated with the Sangh Parivar and calls Baikunth Lal Sharma and BP Singhal his mentors. According to him, his degree is what made him understand the power of technology to reach the youth and spread his message.

In a report by The Print, Narsinghanand is said to be someone who has completed his Master’s from the Moscow Institute of Chemical Machine Building and has “headed marketing teams as an engineer” at companies in Russia and London. On why he returned to India, he says, “I felt that I was born to do something big, so I thought I should return and try my hand at politics.”

However, he told The Print that he didn’t always hate Muslims. Apparently, a girl from a Ghaziabad college allegedly approached him and complained about harassment by a group of Muslim men he hung out with. According to him, she alleged that one of her friends (a Muslim woman) asked her to befriend a Muslim man. When she agreed and started meeting the man, her friend allegedly clicked objectionable photographs of the two and circulated them in college. The photographs, she is said to have alleged, were used to blackmail her into granting sexual favours to “professors, ministers and other Muslim men”.

“She told me that those were the same Muslim men I roamed around with. I was shaken,” he said. “She told me that I was responsible for her misery. It shook me from within,” he added. “That day I thought, what if these Muslims do the same to my daughter… That is when I began this fight for Islam-mukt (Islam-free) Bharat,” he said.

Most of Narsinghanand’s ideology is based on the premise that Hindus are under an existential threat from Islam and Muslims. Throughout all of his addresses to the public, he only propagates one thing – asking Hindus to procreate in large numbers to survive and outdo the Muslim population.

Unfortunately, his organization, Hindu Swabhiman, is an affiliate of Dharam Sena which gives arms training to Hindu children and youth. His right hand man, Parminder Arya, a former army man runs the training programme where children as young as nine are given arms training and lessons which teach them that they need to pick up swords and guns to “fight Muslims who are exploiting Hindu women”.

Chetna Sharma alias Yati Maa Chetnanand is also teaching the children the concept of ‘love jihad’. In a documentary, she is seen telling girls and boys that the Muslims are using ‘love jihad’ as a ploy to trap Hindu women and increase the community’s strength by giving birth to multiple children.

Another one of Narsinghanand’s followers is Pinky Chaudhari. Such is the bond that Narsinghanand shares with Chaudhari that he even became ready to convert to Islam after the police arrested Chaudhari after he confessed to being a part of the attack on the JNU students earlier this year!

His relationship with the BJP

Narsinghanand has been an open supporter of Kapil Mishra, Amit Shah and most of all Yogi Adityanath whom he calls ‘karmyodha’.

However, in his videos, he has often shown disillusionment against the party for being openly supporting the Hindutva mission. He seems to not have a soft spot for PM Modi too. However, he is seen to be closer to ministers like Giriraj Singh who have attended events by Narsinghanand’s organization.

On February 16, Chetnanand had organized a ‘Dharam Samvad’ in Meerut where Giriraj Singh was present and spoke about the “battle to resist Ghazwa-e-Hind.” Singh too spoke of Narsinghanand’s ideologies. Then, he had said, “In several villages and places in India, our (Hindus) population is 99 percent. But whenever this is reduced, they (minorities) get emboldened.” He also gave a slogan, “Bharatvanshi, tera mera rishta kya? Jai Shri Ram, Jai Shri Ram,” and said, “My hands are tied because I hold constitutional office. But I urge Hindu religious leaders to take the lead and mobilise people.”

According to a report by Live Hindustan, Narsinghanand has several cases registered against him ranging from obstructing judicial proceedings to inciting suicide.

In 2005, a case registered at Ghaziabad’s Kavi Nagar police station, involving his protest against the construction of a Haj House led to uproar and provoking communalism thus disrupting judicial proceedings.

In 2010, at the Mansauri police station in Ghaziabad, a case was registered accusing him of inciting people to kill themselves after a man called Sonu Rana consumed a poisonous substance at his instigation.

In 2014, he was charged in a case of attempt to murder, dacoity and creating disturbance at Niwari in Ghaziabad.

Narsinghanand doesn’t believe in a secular India. Will his hate mongering win over the brainwashed, vulnerable public, or will the authorities, including online social media platforms and the country’s courts, take down his content and bring him to justice?

Modi Regime’s Fixing of MSP on Kharif Crops a Betrayal of Promises to Farmers: AIKS

The All India Kisan Sabha has called the recent announcement of the Modi government of MSP on the kharif crop a ‘Historic Betrayal of Farmers’, pointing out that the riginal promise was related to a promised C2+50% and an assured procurement of the crop by government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP had generated high hopes and got the support of farmers in 2014 elections by promising that the Swaminathan commission recommendation of fixing MSP according to the formula C2+50%.

It has betrayed them yet again by announcing MSP for the Kharif crops based on A2+FL costs instead of the promised more comprehensive C2 costs. Also no steps have been taken to ensure assured procurement. Without assured procurement any such announcement is only notional and will not accrue to the cultivating peasantry.

The BJP Government’s tall claims that the decision on Kharif MSP is “historic” falls flat when one compares with the actual promise and the gap between A2+FL and C2 costs. It actually is a historic betrayal of the promise made to farmers of fixing MSP at a level of at least 150 percent of the C2 cost of production.

The above table clearly shows that if the promised C2+50% formula was used for calculating MSP it should have been much higher.
It also has to be noted that there is huge disparity in cost calculation by Central agencies and States. Centrally determined costs are much lower than the costs determined by the State Agricultural departments. Both of these fall below farmers’ actual costs.
The MSP recommended by State Governments (including BJP ruled States) based on their cost calculations are much higher than MSP announced.
Public procurement is mainly taking place only in few crops like paddy and wheat and that too is below 20 percent of the total production. In most other crops there is no procurement in most States.

Costs of certain crops and recommendations by the States will bring out starkly the betrayal by the Narendra Modi led BJP Government.

For the Paddy crop, the State projection of cost of production for 2017-18 by Andhra Pradesh was Rs.1866/Qtl while the CACP projection for the State was merely Rs.1495/Qtl. Andhra Pradesh had proposed Rs.2799/Qtl.

Notably the BJP ruled States of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh had proposed MSP of Rs.3251/Qtl, Rs.2,200/Qtl and Rs.2,700/Qtl respectively for paddy in 2017-18. Other major paddy growing States like Tamilnadu and Punjab had recommended MSP of Rs.2300/Qtl and Rs.2000/Qtl for 2017-18.

A full one year after that the BJP Government has announced Rs.1750/Qtl. The LDF Government in Kerala is already procuring at Rs.2350/Qtl. Due to the absence of public procurement farmers in most States are forced to sell at distress prices ranging from Rs.800/Qtl to Rs.1200/Qtl even when MSP was Rs.1550/Qtl.

BJP ruled Gujarat had proposed Rs.6500/Qtl for groundnut last year while the MSP announced by the centre was a mere Rs.4890/Qtl. Farmers were expecting a huge hike in pulses as an incentive for producing more to meet the country’s needs and also for naturally fixing nitrogen to the tune of about Rs.4000/hectare.

For Arhar/Tur, the cost of production determined by Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were Rs.5984/Qtl amd Rs.7123/Qtl while the CACP projections were way below at Rs.5683/Qtl only for both the States. Farmers are forced to sell at rates ranging between Rs.3400/Qtl to Rs.4,200/Qtl only which is below the then MSP of Rs.5450/Qtl, while this BJP Government is assuring MSP to farmers in Mozambique. Same trend continues for Moong and Urad.

Karnataka which is a major producer of Arhar/Tur had suggested an MSP of Rs.7000/Qtl while the MSP announced is only Rs.5675/Qtl which is way below the cost of production in the major Arhar/Tur growing States. Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh had suggested Rs.4800/Qtl and Rs.4000/Qtl for soyabean while the MSP announced is only Rs.3399/Qtl.

For cotton the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governments cost projection for 2017-18 was Rs.5042/Qtl and Rs.5337/Qtl while CACP projection was only Rs.4625/Qtl. They had proposed MSP of Rs.7564/Qtl and Rs.8005/Qtl respectively and BJP ruled Maharashtra had proposed Rs.7204/Qtl while the MSP announced is only Rs.5150/Qtl.

Illusion of Bounty
Clearly, on looking into the costs of production projected by the States and the Centre, MSP proposed by States and the MSP announced we can understand that the BJP Government led by Narendra Modi is seeking to create an illusion of bounty while they actually are actually pegging farmers’ costs way below the actual and the MSP announced is actually a betrayal of what had been promised.

Four years of the BJP Government has passed without doing anything for farmers and they are now seeking to hoodwink farmers by making an aggressive campaign on the eve of impending elections. AIKS condemns this callous attitude of the BJP Government that exposes its utter failure and calls for revision of MSP according to the Swaminathan Commission recommendations and for ensuring assured procurement. AIKS has chalked out mass campaign, Jail Bharo on 9^thAugust and massive Mazdoor Kisan Sangharsh Rally on 5^thSeptember. We call upon all democratic organisations and individuals interested in farmers’ welfare to join in much greater numbers in these protests against the betrayal by the BJP Government.
