On June 30, the Gorakhpur Police arrested Ashish Raj Srivastava alias Bholu and claimed that he was the actual shooter. Srivastava, who has been an employee of Adeel Ahmed, was released the next day. But after being released from police custody, Srivastava aka Bholu alleged the Gorakhpur police of trying to torture him in an attempt to make him accept the charge that he shot at Kashif Kameel on June 9.

 Bholu’s arrest also becomes suspicious because he was arrested just a day after Kashif’s family met Yogi Adityanath, the state’s chief minister, requesting him to refer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Even the family of Kashif Jameel raised questions over the arrest and alleged violent interrogation of Srivastava and said that the police is doing so because they have apparently failed to arrest the real culprit in the case.

Kashif Jameel was shot in Gorakhpur on June 9 night at around 10 pm. Jameel was shot near the famous Gorakhnath Temple by two unidentified gunmen who approached Kashif on a Honda Activa. One gunman was wearing a helmet while the other had a towel wrapped around his head. Kashif sustained three bullet injuries: on the right side of the neck, right shoulder, and right forearm.

Following this, on the night of July 2, the Police registered a case against Adeel Ahmed Khan and his friend Faizan at Cantt Police Station under sections 419, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of Indian Penal Code. The Police registered a case following a complaint filed by Muzaffar Alam Khan, a resident of Sheshpur, Gorakhpur.

But even before the police action, Adeel Ahmed told media persons on the evening of July 2 that there was a plot to book him and his brothers under false cases. During the interaction with the media, Adeel also predicted correctly that Muzaffar Alam would be the complainant as he was under pressure to do the same.

It is interesting to note that during a press conference on June 17, a week after the attack on Kashif Jameel, Kafeel Ahmed Khan named Kamlesh Paswan, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Basgaon, his partner Satish Nangalia, Muzaffar and Shamim for hiring shooters to kill Kashif Jameel.

Now, the fresh case against Adeel Ahmed, according to his family members, has been filed after the “manipulation” caused by Kamlesh Paswan.

The Gorakhpur police, however, said that Muzaffar Alam, in his complaint to Senior Superintendent of Police in Gorakhpur, accused Mohammad Faizan of opening a bank account in Union Bank by using Alam’s photograph. Reportedly, Alam also told the police that over transactions over Rs 2 crore through the same account was conducted and monitored by Faizan, charges which Kashif Jameel’s family deny. Following the latest chain of events, Adeel Ahmed has stopped taking media calls.

Mohsin’s father, Mohammad Sadiq Shaikh, released a self-made video where he is seen talking about the shortcoming of the justice process and delay made by the administration in providing the compensation and promised a job to the younger brother of Mohsin. This video was uploaded earlier this month.

In the video, Sadiq says, “It has been three years since the death of my son. And I have not received any money from the victim relief fund.”

Talking about the progression of the case Sadiq said, “The case was promised to be brought on Fast track but it has not been done yet. Nor I have got any justice.”

Then Sadiq moves into the reason behind putting up the video. He said, “My younger son is getting married by the end of April. As he has not got any job yet, we are bound to borrow money from people to fulfill the money need.”

He said, “If my son (Mohsin) was alive today, he would have been earning well and I’d not be asking any money from the victim relief fund. Eve if my younger son was employed, there would be no money crisis.”
 

Before ending the video, Sadiq said, “I request to the government of Maharashtra and government of India through this to provide me justice in this case.”

In 2014, during the aftermath of uploading of derogatory images of Chatrapati Shivaji and late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray led to the sporadic violence by right-wing activists across the Maharashtra state resulting into the destruction of public and private properties. The violence claimed the life of Shaikh resident of Solapur whereas another youth Younus Khan was left battling for his life in hospital.

Mohsin was the resident of Solapur and was working in an IT company situated in Hadapsar area of Pune who, according to the police, was assaulted by the members of Hindu Rashtra Sena when he was returning from a Mosque to his rented home in Bankar Colony, Hadapsar after offering night prayer at around 9.00 pm on Monday.

Following this brutal killing, the then CM Prithviraj Chavan announced and provided Rs 5 lakh to the family as compensation and also promised to provide a government job to Mubin Shaikh, a brother of Mohsin. However, no such job was given to him by the state government citing technical flaws in offering a job to the brother of the victim.

On September 5, 2014, a district level committee established under Central Relief Scheme held a meeting in Solapur and it found deceased family eligible for compensation of amount Rs 3 Lakh from the Central Government.

Talking with TwoCircles.net in 2016, Sadiq Shaikh told, “I keep calling Mantralaya and every time they give me different answers. Sometime Jagtap Sahib picks up the phone and says the file has gone missing while other time Govindraj Sahib says it is in progress.”
 

The juveniles were granted bail after two months of their arrest in August 2014 and three other accused – Shubnam Dattatrey Barade (19), Mahesh Maruti Khot (24) and Abhishek Chavan (29) all residents of Kalepadal near Hadapsar were granted bail by Bombay High Court in April 2016. While granted bail, the high court imposed severe conditions on the accused.

A special court in Pune rejected bail plea of Dhananjay Desai for the third time. The court also rejected his discharge application citing evidence against him establishing his role in the criminal conspiracy behind the killing of Mohsin.

On Monday, 25-year-old Azhar Sheikh was returning to his village, Amdole, where the incident occurred, on his bike, when he accidently hit the gate of Pandal. The pandal was installed on the occasion of a Hindu marriage ceremony.

Angry members of the Hindu community thrashed the boy, following which Azhar came back home and returned to the spot with his brothers and friends in order to confront the attackers. But according to locals, members of the Hindu community were already prepared with the sickle and javelins. When Azhar arrived, he was stabbed in his chest with sickles and country-made javelins. His friends and brothers took him to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Sarbeshwar Rajbanshi, his brother Bishu Rajbanshi and one of their colleagues have been linked with the murder. Both the brothers are said to be associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Azhar’s last rites were performed by his father today Malik Shiekh.

Residents of the village Amdole tell that Police has sealed the village perimeter and is not allowing any outsider to come inside but even after all the police arrangements, the area is still tense. A resident of the village told Twocircles.net over the phone: “They (the Hindu community members) are telling us that they have started the movement and will teach us a lesson. But Muslims here are also incensed after the killing of Azhar, and they are saying that we won’t sit silently if attacked again.”

About 65% of the village of Amdole consists of Muslims.

While Murarai Police Station PSI Arup Dutta refused to comment on the issue, CI Raj Kumar Malakar informed that FIR was lodged against Bishu Rajbanshi and he was arrested last night. Villagers do say that Police is taking all measures to control the situation and thanking the force too.

Since the last couple of weeks, a number of incidents in Birbhum have resulted in the district sitting on a communal tinderbox. On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on April 11, police lathi-charged members of Hindu Jagran Manch for taking out a procession. Hindu Jagran Manch and BJP condemned the Police for action, but Police clarified later on that procession was taken out without any prior permission. Earlier there were few CCTV footages and reports emerging of Hindu boys trying to buy Cattle carcases and cow heads with an aim to create communal disharmony.
