Delhi violence: Delhi HC issues notice on bail plea filed by Mohd. Saleem Khan

Matter pertaining to alleged “larger conspiracy”; posted for hearing on July 20

On May 23, 2022, the Delhi High Court issued notice on the bail plea filed by Mohd. Saleem Khan in connection with a case alleging larger conspiracy into the communal violence that broke out in East Delhi in February 2020. Khan has been charged under Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) reported LiveLaw.

A bench comprising Justices Mukta Gupta and Mini Pushkarna posted the matter for hearing on July 20.

Khan has been charged with various offences mentioned under the Indian Penal Code, 1860; Sections 13, 16, 17, 18 of the UAPA, Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and Section 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.

Many people have been implicated under FIR 59 of 2020, are Tahir Hussain, Abdul Khalid Saifi, Ishrat Jahan, Meeran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima Khatoon, Safoora Zargar, Shifa-Ur-Rehman, Asif Iqbal Tanha, Shadab Ahmad, Natasha Narwal, Devangana Kalita, Taslim Ahmed, Saleem Malik, Mohd. Saleem Khan, Athar Khan, Faizan Khan, Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid. Safoora, Asif, Natasha, Devangana, Faizan and Ishrat are out on bail.

The court is hearing bail plea by Umar Khalid today while that of Sharjeel Imam will be heard on May 26.
