Elections 2019: YSRCP getting a landslide victory in Andhra Pradesh

While the counting for the Andhra Pradesh assembly and general elections is underway, as per the later updates, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSRCP is getting a landslide victory as against the incumbent Telugu Desam Party (TDP) led by Chandrababu Naidu.

According to the latest reports, YSRCP is leading in 149 of the 175 (50.2%) Assembly seats and 24 of 25 Lok Sabha seats.

This appears to be a humiliating defeat for Naidu’s party, which has been reduced to 25 (39.1%) assembly seats and most likely not a single Lok Sabha seat. The Jana Sena party, founded by actor-turned-politician, Pawan Kalyan, has got only one lead in the legislative assembly.

Notably, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has got only 0.8% of the vote share while the Indian National Congress (INC) managed to receive 1.2% of votes. Strikingly, 237,346 (1.3%) votes have gone to NOTA. This appears to be a strong anti-incumbency wave!

This was the first Assembly election after the state got bifurcated in 2014. Reportedly, the current chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu, will be meeting the governor today evening to submit his resignation. Also, the schedule for the oath-taking ceremony of Reddy will be announced soon.
