Guwahati, August 4:  Another brave freedom fighter, like many other Indian citizens, has been missed out in the Draft Updated NRC! Family members of Purna Bahadur Chetry, who was in direct touch with Indian Great Freedom Fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and fought for Indian Independence. A brave soldier of Indian freedom movement who joined in Indian National Army at Japan during second world war. His family is out of the draft.

Purna Bahadur Chetry, who was resident of undivided Kamrup district in Assam, presently the Baksa District of Assam worked for British Army in his early life. When Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose formed the Indian National Army, and launched his war against the colonial, British Raj, from the land of Japan, Purna Bahadur Chetry, escaped from home and reached Japan in 1942. He then joined the Indian National Army under the direct advise of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, with a mission to bring Freedom to India. He fought bravely in foreign lands.

After Independence, he returned to India from Japan and began his ‘normal’ life in the village of Paharpur, under Tamulpur Police Station in Baksa District where he was born. He breathed his last in the same village in 1967. Though Purna Bahadur Chetry, was born in the village –and is therefore by any standards of examination a naturalised Indian citizen –where he breathed his last, none of the family members of  Purna Bahadur Chetry, have been included in the Draft NRC!
