A 61-year-old Punjabi farmer was found dead near the Tikri border farmer protest site on the evening of March 25, reported the Indian Express. The deceased identified as Hakam Singh from Bathinda was found near the new bus stand in Jhajjar, as per the Jhajjar police.
According to people who found the body, the aged farmer was travelling to join the Bharat Bandh protests at Delhi borders. However, on the eve of the nationwide event, Singh was found dead with injuries allegedly caused by a sharp-edged object. Graphic photos of the body have been unfortunately circulated on social media.
Meanwhile, Bahadurgarh DSP Pawan Kumar told SabrangIndia that police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain whether the nature of the death although it is suspected to be a murder.
“We have registered an FIR in the matter against unknown persons and are conducting investigations to identify the accused. Nothing more can be said until the report arrives on March 26,” he said.
On Friday, farmers, workers, students and all supporters of the farmers’ struggle entered the streets to protest the three farm laws and demand legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) from the central government.
Despite increasing casualties of the movement – 320 deaths as of Thursday morning – farmer leaders appealed to all protesters to agitate peacefully. They reminded protesters that any kind of illegitimate debate and conflict would harm the movement that has remained successful for so long.
