A farmers organisation announced a series of events starting from February 12, 2021 to February 18, 2021 including a rail roko programme to intensify the farmers’ struggle against the three farm laws forcibly passed by the central government.

Following vehement condemnation of the Prime Minister’s Rajya Sabha speech, the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) decided to observe a four-hour rail roko protest across India next Thursday from 12 PM to 4 PM. Farmers across the nation will reiterate their demands for withdrawal of the laws, legal guarantee to Minimum Support Price (MSP,) withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill 2020 and the deletion of clauses that penalise farmers under Pollution Control laws.

Similarly, farmers organisations in Rajasthan will observe open toll-plazas across the state as early as February 12 to decry the central government’s anti-people laws. This movement will be followed by candle marches and mashal juloos on February 14 to honour the martyred soldiers who had sacrificed their lives during the Pulwama attack.

On February 16, farmers across India will celebrate the birth anniversary of Sir Chhoturam – the revolutionary pre-partition farmer leader who first passed APMC laws in India.

Earlier, All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) General Secretary Hannan Mollah condemned the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that called “farmers as parasites.” He asked, “Farmers work day and night to give food to this country. Who gave him the right to say such a thing to our annadaata?”

Similarly, All India Kisan Sangharsh Samanvay Samiti member Pratibha Shinde reminded, “This country gained freedom through protests. Our history is andolankari. For the government to try to erase this fact shows that the people in power do not want this history to remain.”
