Farmers across the country observed a road-blockade on November 5, 2020 from noon till evening, persisting in their agitation against the three agriculture laws forcibly passed by the central government.

Punjab farmers were once again at the forefront of the movement with leader Yogendra Yadav addressing farmers at Khanauri near the Punjab-Haryana border.

All roads and highways were blocked although ambulances, fire brigades and other emergency services were allowed to pass by.

Similarly, protests continued in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Chennai under the common banner of the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC).

The event which was more widely covered on social media platforms that news channels also included farmers from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha, eager to add their voices to the national dissent.

On Twitter, netizens celebrated the women who led the road blockade in Tamil Nadu and Punjab.

Many southern states also participated in the event, once again refuting the much-peddled idea that Punjab and Haryana farmers alone are concerned about farm laws.

In Maharashtra, the AIKSCC and the All India Congress Committee had separate protests to support the demands of farmers.

The next event organised by the AIKSCC will take place on November 26 during the ‘Chalo Delhi’ march, another national protest to present the demands of farmers.
