On Saturday, the Ahmedabad Police booked filmmaker Avinash Das allegedly for sharing a picture of Union Home Minister Amit Shah with the recently arrested Jharkhand cadre IAS officer Pooja Singhal. Singhal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case.
According to news reports, the photo of Amit Shah with Pooja Singhal who is seen whispering into his ear was taken five years ago. However it is alleged that the filmmaker had shared recently to “malign/defame Amit Shah’s image and mislead people”. Das has also been booked for allegedly “insulting the national flag by sharing a picture of a woman wearing a tricolour.”
Ahmedabad Crime Branch officials told the media that Das had shared a photo of Shah with arrested Jharkhand cadre IAS officer Pooja Singhal on Twitter on May 8, the caption reportedly mentioned that the photo “was taken before the IAS officer’s arrest.”
The Enforcement Directorate had arrested IAS officer Pooja Singhal on charges of money laundering. The videos of cash seized from her house by officials had also gone viral. Now, according to news reports the crime branch officials have said Das had “an intention to defame the image of Amit Shah.”
Das is a critically acclaimed filmmaker who made “Anaarkali of Aarah”. Now he has been booked under various sections, and is likely to be called to the crime branch for questioning, stated news reports.
