Ghatnandur Gram Panchayat in Beed passes resolution against CAA-NRC

The resolution was passed keeping in mind the dangers to the larger population and the Adivasi community

resolution

The Ghatnandur village Panchayat Gram Sabha, in Beed, Maharashtra has passed a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) on February 12, 2020.

Kashmira Mehboob Shaikh informed the Gram Sabha that the announcement of the CAA and the NRC have caused massive protests throughout the country. She said that if the CAA and nationwide NRC are implemented, many people will be left ‘stateless’ just like the 19 lakh left out of the NRC in Assam because though many people are residents of India, due to low literacy rates and widespread poverty and migration, they do not have their documents.

She also said that one of the most affected communities would be the Adivasi community which keeps travelling for work and is engaged in unorganized labour.

Keeping the dangers and arguments of the same in mind, Shrimati Mandakini Gyanoba Jadhav, Sarpanch passed the resolution against the CAA and the NRC.

This follows in the same vein as the Isalak village which became the first village in the country, with not a single Muslim resident and the Iduvai village in Tiruppur which passed a resolution against the CAA, NRC and National Population Register (NPR).
