Renowned farmer leader Ghulam Muhammad Jaula passed away on May 16, 2022 owing to cardiac arrest. The Muzaffarnagar leader who coined the ‘Allah-Hoo-Akbar, Har Har Mahadev’ slogan died at 85.
Jaula was a part of the farmers’ struggle for over four decades and defended the communal amity of the region. He emerged as a riveting leader as a member of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) in the Meerut region demanding remunerative price for sugarcane. He also fought for the waiver of electricity and water charges.
In fact, he was known as the left-hand man of farmer leader Mahendra Singh Tikait. Under his guidance, the BKU spread in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. A year after Tikait’s death, he left the party to form the ‘Kisan Majdoor Manch’.
Regardless of the affiliated union, Jaula’s secular resolve was always evident. He was vocal during the 1990s when communal violence was raging through the farming community as well. Later on, he joined the nationwide farmers movement in 2020 when all farmers came together against the three contentious farm laws. He also attended the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Rally at Muzaffarnagar on September 5, 2021.
Honouring his memory, the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) said, “The AIKS expresses grief and extends condolence on the demise of the senior Kisan leader of Muzaffarnagar. AIKS conveys its heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family members.”
