Group Captain Varun Singh succumbs to injuries

The sole survivor of the chopper crash that killed CDS Bipin Rawat was being treated for severe burns at a military hospital in Bengaluru

After a week of bravely battling for his life, Group Captain Singh passed away in a Bengaluru hospital. The Shaurya Chakra awardee was the sole survivor of the December 8 chopper crash that killed Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others.

Singh was being treated for severe burns at a military hospital in Bengaluru, where he had been brought from Wellington in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. The Indian Air Force announced his demise.

His death was mourned by lakhs on social media platforms, including President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

 

Singh had been on life support, according to reports, and many good wishes and prayers had been pouring in for his recovery.
