Hate Speech targeting minorities continue nationwide, from Daman to Delhi

Multiple incidents of derogatory and dehumanising hate speech towards Muslims reported across India.

Another spate of hate speech spread across the nation as prominent figures associated with far-right ideologies have delivered incendiary speeches.

In New Delhi, Jai Bhagwan Goyal, a leader within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the head of the Hindu United Front, used inflammatory language targeting the Muslim community during a public address. Goyal also employed derogatory and alarming remarks and encouraged Hindus to arm themselves. The video surfaced on Twitter on 8th August, 2023.

Meanwhile, in Nani, Daman, Daman, and Diu, at an event organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) to observe the Akhand Bharat Sankalp Divas, Kajal Shingla, a prominent figure associated with the Bajrang Dal, resorted to vitriolic rhetoric against Muslims. Shingla’s speech, characterised by its derogatory referral to what appeared Muslims as “insects,” was accompanied by the propagation of conspiracy theories aimed at fomenting hostility and instigating violence. “We don’t know what Akhand Bharat is. We have Rohingya coming, and we even have some of the old insects/cretins still lying around,” she said and went on to receive loud laughter and claps from the crowd. The video was uploaded on 8th August, 2023.

Recently a controversial song uploaded to YouTube by Haryana-based singers Biru Kataria, Rahul Puthi, and SS Rana posted wtth song which is about the glorification of cow vigilantism and incitement of violence against Muslims. The song, titled “Dhyan se sun lo Katwo, Tumhe zinda phukenge. Goliyon ko Prasad ke jaise baatenge” (Listen carefully Muslims, we will burn you alive. We will give you bullets like one distributes sweets), has garnered over 347k views, drawing attention to the platform’s content monitoring mechanisms.

The video’s content is seen as particularly alarming due to its explicit call for harm towards a specific religious group. This incident has put the spotlight on platforms like YouTube and their role in regulating content that promotes violence and hate speech. As of now, Sabrang India has observed that recently the video has been removed from YouTube for violating it’s rules and regulations.

Congress leader Kamal Nath has made remarks regarding the demographic composition of India. He was asked about Dhirendra Shastri’s demand for a Hindu Rashtra, Congress leader Kamal Nath said “Everyone has their own views. Today if 82 per cent are Hindus in our country, then what nation is this? If 82 per cent are Hindus?”

Earlier this month, an RJD leader had also criticised MP Nakul Kamal Nath, son of Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath, for welcoming Bageshwar Dham’s head priest Dhirendra Shastri. RJD’s Shivanand Tiwari accused Congress MP Nakul Kamal Nath of hosting Dhirendra Shastri and claimed that Shastri openly supports the idea of transforming India into a Hindu Rashtra. Dhirendra Shastri has reportedly openly endorsed the idea of Hindu Rashtra.

A disturbing video surfaced on Instagram ffrom Haridwar, Uttarakhand when a temple representative’s appeal to refrain from spreading hate against Muslims led to a confrontation from angry Hindutva members. The woman who accosted him said, “He has asked not to speak anything on Muslims. We will say as we like about Muslims.”

 

Additionally, a group of Hindutva inclined monks organised an event in support of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), where certain speakers reportedly delivered communally charged speeches at the event. Talking about the alleged population crisis, one of the speakers talked to great applause from there crowd about how there used to be a 50 per cent Hindu population in Mewat, and now the Hindu population has dwindled to 15 percent. The video surfaced on Twitter on 9th August, 2023.
