A Hindutva mob has been raising volatile slogans and calling for an attack on Muslims, who they are openly calling traitors. This act of hate and abuse has reportedly taken place in Anand, Gujarat. A clip of the ‘protest’ has just been shared on social media.
The Hindutva mob, that includes women, can be seen and heard shouting slogans and posing for photos for cameras outside what is reportedly a Muslim-owned business. According to Twitter users this group was opposing the opening of a restaurant owned a Muslim in their neighbourhood.
They are sloughing slogans such as “Desh ke daddaron ko… jhoote maro salo ko (beat the traitors with shoes)” a slogan made popular by some Bharatiya Janata Party leaders during election campaigns. They are also threatening Muslims with slogans such as, “If you want to stay in India, you will have to say Jai Sri Ram”.

According to another Twitter user, the group is protesting “because this Muslim owned hotel had images of Hindu deities on tiles outside the bathroom.” While it has not been verified if that is the case, such tiles with images of gods are often used to prevent people from defacing and soiling walls, and are seen in many places, especially across north india.
In 2017, soon after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath banned paan, gutka and other tobacco products in all government offices, it was reported that authorities in Shahjahanpur installed tiles with pictures of Hindu gods and goddesses have been put up in the corners and staircases of administration offices in the district to stop people from spitting betel juice, gutka there.
