A physics teacher at a government school in Chidambaram town, Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu has been held for allegedly flogging and kicking his 17-year-old Dalit student studying in Class 12. The incident came to light on October 14, when it was revealed that the student had sustained injuries on his thighs and was thus admitted to the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital (RMMCH) in Chidambaram.
Based on the student’s complaint, the teacher has been booked under Sections 294 (b) (uttering obscenities), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act read with Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 2016 and has been sent to judicial custody, reported The Hindu.
The video of the incident was shot by fellow classmates, and went viral on social media. The boy was found not attending class by the school’s Headmaster, and when this was brought to the notice of the physics teacher, he started caning him and pulled at the boy’s hair and then started flogging and kicking him.
