A group of Bajrang Dal members beat up and harassed a Muslim youth when he was meeting his girlfriend in a park. Since the couple belonged to different faiths, the members started alleging him of trying to commit ‘love jihad’. A video recording of the said incident is being shared on social media, showing the Bajrang Dal goons surrounding the couple and then physically abusing the Muslim man. The girl can be heard begging the mob to leave them alone, while the Bajrang Dal members keep harassing them.
Later, the video shows that a policeman also enters the park, presumably called by the members of the Bajrang Dal. The mob then says that the Muslim man is pretending to be Hindu and calls himself Samar, while the name on his Aadhar card is Mohsin. Both the girl and the boy can be seen denying this. They both also deny that they are a couple, and the girl can be heard saying that the guy is her brother.
They both can then be seen pleading before the policeman. This incident is reportedly from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The video then abruptly ends and it is not clear what action was taken by the police man. But, it is pertinent to note that the members of the Bajrang Dal were acting as if the interfaith couple had committed a crime, against which they had called the police. Even the police was seen entertaining the goons instead of siding with the couple, who had not committed any crime.

Instances of moral policing by members of extremist Hindutva outfits have been increasing since the last year. There is a growing environment of hatred towards Muslims, so much so that two people belonging to different faiths cannot even stand together anymore. Police officers siding with such goons adds on to this unsafe environment of fanaticism that is being created. The question as to why the police is giving these goons a free pass to walk and terrorise general public has been raised again and again, but no answer has yet been given. In our country, two adults, who have attained majority, are free to enter any relationship that they willing consent to. However, the police are no longer running by the Constitutional laws it seems.
