On the day caste Hindus celebrate Dussehra (October 8, 2019) and the victory of “good” over “evil,” Aarey’s Adivasis mourned the evil that was let loose by the Maharashtra authorities last week when –in the dark of Friday night and over the next 48 hours over 2,000 trees were felled. Yesterday, the Adivasis of Aarey held an emotional meet to ask forgiveness from the trees they could not save. Such a devastating loss for those whose daily life is spent among trees! Meanwhile, little care or thought is being given to thousands of bird life that was brutally shaken up by the mass felling. And, the Bombay police despite the Supreme Court’s directions has started probing the FIR registered against 29 young protesters!
