Instant Talaq on Telephone: Victim meets UP CM. Yogi Adityanath with plea for justice

You will get justice, and soon, the CM assures the victim of instant talaq

Triple Talaq

At a time when the Narendra Modi-led NDA government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court against the triple talaq practice, incidents are coming to light one after another which are a matter of great shame for Islam’s followers, reads a report front-paged by the Urdu daily, Inquilab.

In the latest such incident, a Muslim woman named Sabreen from Lakhimpur attended the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ‘Janata Darbar’ on Monday.

Sabreen was recently given talaq via a telephone call. With her little daughter perched on one arm and holding her husband’s photo in the other, she had come to appeal to the CM for justice.

Sobbing away, she told the CM that less than two years ago she was married to a man from Sitapur. She alleged that her in-laws had been demanding a car and Rs 20 lakh towards dowry.

In the midst of this, Sabreen delivered a baby girl. Instead of rejoicing, her in-laws and her husbands were outraged. Next, the husband instantly divorced her with a simple telephone call. “I have hopes of getting justice only from you”, Sabreen told the CM. Having heard her case, the CM replied, “You will get justice, and soon”.
