Internet in Villages: 39.84 crore rural internet user in country

Rural internet subscribers in the country have spearheaded internet consumption as on March 2024 is 39.84 crore as the Ministry of Communication and Rural Development stated in the Parliament.

The information was given by the Ministry against the unstarred question raised by MP Tejveer Singh. Singh asked the Ministry to provide information on the present status of internet connections in villages and the increase in the number of internet users since 2019, the details thereof along with the figures.

On August 1, in response to the question asked by MP Tejveer Singh, the Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said that rural internet users in the country were 38,84 crores as on March 2024. Pemmasani also informed the parliament that the total number of internet subscribers have increased to 95.44 crore in March 2024 from 63.67 crore in March 2019, thereby registering an increase of 31.77 crores in the last five years.

However, as per a report by TransUnion CIBIL, around 56 percent of the total new internet users will be from rural India by 2025. As per a report, which stated that currently 36 percent of digital payment users hail from rural parts of the country.
