Kashmir TV artiste Amreen Bhat (35) became the latest civilian victim of a terror killing in the Valley.  Amreen Bhat’s 10-year-old nephew was also injured after terrorists shot at them in the Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

According to news reports “Amreen Bhat was a TV artiste and a singer who uploaded her songs on various social media platforms.” police told the medis that this attack was “by three terrorists of the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).”

The attack took place in Budgam where on Monday, there must have been heavy security in place as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was meeting Kashmiri Pandit protesters who are raising their voice against the killing of Rahul Bhat. Since Rahul Bhat’s murder, the Kashmiri Pandit community has been staging protests against the J&K administration.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the area has been cordoned off and searches have begun, and a case has been registered. This is the second attack in 24 hours.

A day before this, terrorists killed policeman Saifullah Qadri in the Soura (Anchar) area of Jammu and Kashmir. Here too, a child, Qadri’s nine-year-old daughter was wounded. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had then said, “I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Soura, Srinagar. I assure the people that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished. I salute the martyr Policeman SgCt Saifullah Qadri. His service to the nation and supreme sacrifice will always be remembered. My thoughts are with the bereaved family. I pray for the speedy recovery of his daughter.”

However, the attacks on innocent civilians have continued unabated. Amreen Bhat a resident of Hushroo Chadoora was shot at in her home and her 10-year-old nephew who was also at home was also hit by a bullet on his arm, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had confirmed.

According to news reports the medical superintendent of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital Kanwarjit Singh confirmed the woman was brought dead to the hospital and “had a bullet shot in her neck.”

National Conference leader and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah posted , “There can be no justification for attacking innocent women & children like this.”

The attack comes just a day after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the family of Kashmiri Pandit government employee Rahul Bhat was killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district on May 12. It has been two weeks of protests led by the KP community, and despite assurances “that the terrorists and their supporters paid a heavy price,” civilians continue to be targetted.
