March will be the month of numerous mahapanchayats across India in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal, Odisha and other states, said farmers organisation Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on March 1, 2021.
Following discussions on February 28, farmer leaders said they will meet with leaders of various Central Trade Unions on Monday evening to work out a joint program of action to oppose the central government’s anti-people-dubbed policies.
Similarly, the SKM talked about the Rashtriya Sewa Dal’s submission of a memorandum to Maharashtra Governor Shri Koshiyari after collecting more than 6.75 lakh signatures to request the repeal of the three farm laws – the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance & Farm Services Act, the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act – as well as the legislation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all farmers.
In Uttarakhand, families of twenty martyrs received financial support of Rs. 1 lakh each from the Baba Gurmit Singh Dera Kar Sewa Shahbad and the Bhai Sardar Randhir Singh Sangat Trust. In all 266 people have died while participating in the farmers’ struggle. SKM leaders, who travelled to Rudrapur district in Uttarakhand to address a very large gathering of farmers, invited participants to join the protest sites.
Following videos of farmers destroying their own crops, SKM leaders urged farmers to take care of food crops and farmers’ produce that they grew with their blood, sweat and toil and to take care of the movement as well.
Farmers agitations continue in other parts of the country. Earlier, on February 27, the SKM organised a Jan Sabha in Thakurdwara region of Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, protesting farmers took over the stage of a State Minister in Lakhimpur Kheri.
