The office of the State Coordinator of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam has issued a notification directing all Deputy Commissioners as well as District Registrars of Citizen Registration (DRCRs) to make arrangements for storage in Circle offices for all paperwork, laptops and other related materials that are currently stored in Nagorik Seva Kendras (NSKs).

The NSKs that are described by the administration as Information Communication Technology (ICT) enabled help desks, played a key role in being a point of contact for citizens during the NRC process. 2,500 such NSKs were set up across Assam. They provided assistance in legacy data search, application form submissions and receipt, and other processes related to document submission.

But since the NRC process has been completed across the state, the NSKs do not serve the purpose for which they were created. The records there will now be stored in Circle offices. The entire notification may be viewed here:

Currently the only activity remaining to be completed is the issuance of rejection slips and speaking orders to people whose names were left out of the NRC that was published on August 31, 2019. That process was placed on hold due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. Directions with regard to how this final task will be accomlished are still awaited.
