It’s not just the Northen belt in India, or the metropolitan cities, which have risen for democratic values through cultural protests. Amid rising tensions in Darjeeling over the demand for Gorkhaland, several poets, actors, filmmakers, and singers have come together to form PAHAL. The group was formed after three civilians were killed and one policeman injured iduring a protest in Darjeeling. After conducting walking tours across the hills in West Bengal on the tense situation in the hills, they travelled to Kolkata and Delhi to spread their message. The Indian Cultural Forum spoke to Tika Bhai, an activist and poet, also winner of the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, among others from PAHAL. Listen to the songs and poems in the video below:
