Amid the ongoing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Uttar Pradesh police have allegedly identified and are keeping an eye on 21 groups who have demonstrated against the CAA and NRC and distributed pamphlets and other reading material citing its dangers.

Reports say that the police is keeping an eye on the activities of the main people or chiefs of such organizations and have even roped in the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) and its Social Media Cell for the same.

The police has sent out a warning that nobody engage in any activities that will harm law and order ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. It has said that whoever is found guilty of creating tension or disturbances during this time, will be caught and sent to prison.

The PM is set to visit Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency on February 16 to inaugurate development projects there and will also address a public rally and inaugurate a Vedic Science Centre at the Benaras Hindu University (BHU).

Uttar Pradesh has been in the throes of turmoil ever since the anti-CAA and NRC protests began there. More than 18 people lost their lives due to police firing and scores of children, women and human rights activists were attacked brutally by the police throughout the state.
