Rajasthan: State Education Minister warns of bulldozer action against teachers

BJP’s Madan Dilawar has hit a controversy recently after promising “bulldozer action” for teachers who do not behave appropriately with students

BJP’s Dilawar, who currently holds positions as Cabinet Minister as School Education & Panchayati Raj Department in Government of Rajasthan, stated recently at a programme that teachers whose conduct is inappropriate will not only be suspended but also dismissed from their jobs. Alongside this, bulldozers will be deployed on their properties. The Ministry has also announced, according to ZEE Rajasthan, that the coming Valentine’s Day may be celebrated by the state government as Mata-Pita Pujan Diwas.

According to The Mooknayak, the minister’s statements were delivered during a cycle distribution programme at a government school. At the event, Minister Dilawar began questioning the teachers engaging in misconduct. “If a Guru behaves like this with a shishya (student), then why is he a teacher?” Mooknayak has reported that the State President Siyaram Sharma of the Rajasthan Teachers Association has expressed that some teachers are shocked and bewildered at the statement but has promised that the situation will calm down and be smoothed over in no time. Sharma approved measures such as suspensions and dismissal as they are according to established rules. The Rajasthan Teachers Association Ambedkar criticised the announcement, and called the prospect of bulldozing properties as anti-constitutional.

However, the minister has also issued warning for bulldozer action against corrupt government officials. He has stated that any illegal properties belonging to the officials would face demolition by bulldozers along with suspension and dismissal. He further stated that the officials have been given explicit instructions to look for government employees in cases of corruption and misconduct who have so far managed to get away with the consequences due to lack of enough evidence. Furthermore, he even mentioned that he would not care “if he is hanged for violation of rules” for getting these properties demolished.

Furthermore, the minister stated that he has instructed the officials in attendance at the meeting to guarantee compliance to regulations concerning meat and alcohol establishments.

In recent news, there was an FIR against a teacher from a Scheduled Caste community in Rajasthan because she reportedly put Savitribai Phule as goddess of education of Saraswati, who is a Hindu deity. The teacher, Hemlata Bairwa, has in turn accused villagers and teachers of harassment and caste discrimination. She has stated that it was Republic Day and that it is unconstitutional to hold religious programmes in school.
