Rajya Sabha MP, Partap Singh Bajwa who is also a part of the consultative committee on Human Resources Development wrote a letter to Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) President Aishe Ghosh saying that he and India, both stood by her.
Bajwa’s letter comes after another Rajya Sabha MP Elamaran Kareem wrote to the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, asking him to probe the dastardly violence that was unleashed on the students and teachers of JNU on the evening of January 5, 2020.
In his letter to Aishe, Bajwa said, “Before the dastardly attack on your University yesterday, I knew you as the President of the JNU Students Union. After the attack, when I saw you on TV, not cowed down by the attack, but defiant, I knew you as Aishe Ghosh, a great daughter of India.”
Stating that as a parent, he was hurt to see the state Aishe was in, he wrote, “I find it ironic that the University is more interested in filing an FIR against you for violence, the day after you were viciously attacked, rather than attempting to protect their students from being violently attacked.”
Calling her an inspiration, he said, “Despite these attempts to suppress your voice, you continue to fight. For me, you are the symbol of resistance, of resistance and ultimately, of hope.”
Quoting Rabindranath Tagore, he asked Aishe to be courageous and fearless and said that it was her and her peers that came with the message that God was not yet discouraged of India.
