RLD Chief Chaudhary Ajjit Singh dies of Covid-19

After more than two weeks of fight against the infection, Singh passed away on Thursday

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Founder and Former Union Minister Chaudhary Ajit Singh died due to Covid-19 on May 6, 2021. The 82-year-old was undergoing treatment at a Gurgaon private hospital after his condition deteriorated because of a lung infection.

According to son and former MP Jayant Chaudhary’s tweet, “Chaudhary Ajit Singh was diagnosed Covid-poasitive on April 20 and breathed his last on May 6. This is a time of great sorrow. Till the end, he battled against the illness.”

 

 

“Throughout his life journey, Chaudhary Sahib was loved and respected by many. He, in turn cherished this bond with all of you and gave his best consideration and efforts for your welfare,” said Jayant.

Singh was the son of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and a seven-time MP from Baghpat. He served as the Union Civil Aviation Minister between 2011 and 2014. Prior to that he worked as the Union Agriculture Minister in the Vajpayee’s government between 2001 and 2003. Further, Singh was also a part of central committees on finance and government assurances, chemicals and fertilisers.

An alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, he worked for 15 years in the US computer industry. Later, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1986, after his father became ill.

Following his demise, various political leaders and officials voiced their condolences.

 

 

 

 

Chaudhary is survived by his son and two daughters. His family requested mourners to continue to remain at home and follow safety protocols to honour Singh’s memory.
