SC directs EC to look into Tej Bahadur Yadav’s Grievances

The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to look into the grievances of former BSF jawaan Tej Bahadur Yadav, whose nomination was recently rejected by the EC. Yadav’s nomination was significant as he is contesting against PM Narendra Modi from Varanasi.

Yadav had first filed his nomination as an independent on May 23, but filed it again on May 29 when the Samajwadi Party decided to field him as their candidate. However, the EC demanded that he produce documentation detailing reasons for his dismissal from the BSF and rejected his nomination when the said document was allegedly not produced within the time granted.

But Yadav rubbished the EC’s reasons and moved SC. On Wednesday, May 8, an SC bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi ordered the EC to examine Yadav’s grievance. It directed the counsel for the EC to seek instructions and apprise it by the next hearing on Thursday.

Yadav had been suspended after he posted a video online showing the poor quality of food served to BSF jawaans.
