Indore: In a shocking incident, Indore BJP MLA and son of BJP’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, Akash Vijayvargiya, thrashed a municipal officer with a cricket bat during a demolition drive over the allegations of corruption by the latter today afternoon.
As reported in India Today, the officer and Akash engaged in an argument when it heated up during the demolition drive. Soon, the BJP MLA started beating up the officer with a cricket bat in front of a huge crowd and media persons. He was reported saying, “The owner of the building paid the corporation to demolish it and some people were staying in the building. I tried to reach out to the corporation, they didn’t take my calls. I have a responsibility towards the people who voted for me.” He further added, “How can I let down my voters as a responsible MLA. As an MLA, I have the right to be informed about such drives in my constituency. They did not inform me.”
In a video that has now gone viral, Akash can be seen threatening the officers saying, “You should leave within five minutes else whatever happens after that will be your responsibility.”
Notably, Akash has justified his actions and warned of similar consequences in the future as well. “This is just the beginning. We will end this corruption and goondaism. Aavedan, nivedan aur phir dana dan, this is our line of action (Request, appeal and then thrashing, this is our line of action),” said Akash. He then went on to add that if required, he will repeat his act of beating up the officers once again.
BJP leader, Hitesh Bajpai, has supported Akash in his ‘anti-corruption’ move. “You can put Akash behind bars for using a cricket bat to beat up an officer but what about the officer who was asking for bribe,” said Bajpai.
In this era, where every other person is taking law in his/her own hands, whether they are the self-assigned cow vigilantes or the protectors of Hindutva, such incidents by powerful people gives the masses a leeway and encourages them to indulge in unlawful activities.
