Shruti Kumar champions Palestinian rights in empowering Harvard commencement address

Her impromptu critique of the university's disciplinary actions against students and stifling of free expression garnered a standing ovation for the Indian American from Nebraska

Selected to deliver the English address, the senior delivered a scathing rebuke to university officials from the podium. With a piece of paper containing unprepared remarks tucked up her sleeve, she seized the moment. “As I stand here today, I cannot ignore the absence of my fellow peers – the 13 undergraduates from the class of 2024 who are unjustly barred from this ceremony,” she declared, her frustration palpable as she criticised the university’s decision to exclude them following campus protests over the Gaza conflict.
